DESIGN BRIEF
Design an illustrated book in Hindi for rural children majorly of age group of 8-12yrs explaining science concepts weaved into interesting stories which connect emotionally with them.
From the findings, following are the topics on which most of the children would want to read books on
Prithvi(Earth) kaise bani ?
Jeevan(Life) kaise shuru hua ? Graho(Planets) ke bare mai jankari
Suraj(Sun) kitna bada hota hai?
Chandrama(Moon) par kaise jate hai? Veman(Rocket) ke bare mein jankari Bhukamp(Earthquake) kyu hota hai?
Bijli(electricity) kaise aati hai?
I choose to design an educational book about MOON. Research showed that many children are enthusiastic to know about many things about Moon such as Chandrama(Moon) par kaise jate hai? Veman(Rocket) ke bare mein jankari.
CONTENT DESIGN includes 3 main steps:
-What all kids want to know and should know about MOON?
-How rural children relate Moon with their environment?
-Building correlation between rational concepts and rural children’s perception
Following are the sub topics that the education book covers about Moon:
How big is moon and how far from earth?
What is solar system and what role does moon perform?
Phases of moon
How the surface of moon look?
Does moon has its own light?
How to reach moon?
How rocket travels in space?
What is Gravitational force?
What causes tides and floods?
Working of a space rocket through an example of a firecracker rocket
Who was the first man on moon and what did he say from there?
ILLUSTRATION EXPLORATIONS:
Observed details such as the face structures, cloths, hair tying styles and body language of the target audience
The character of Moon is tried to be kept as close to how it looks naturally as I wanted kids to respect, relate and love Moon in its original form
LAYOUT DESIGN
The conversational look n feel between the children and the Moon is maintained in all the spreads of the book. Appropriate use of body postures, expressions, and movements are used in layouts to make it look visually very interactive.
Use of fonts has been kept simple and easy to read keeping the general readability of rural audience in due consideration.
